People Get Mad Because Electro is Not Black and a New International Trailer for ‘Lincoln’

I found it sad, funny and timely when I came home from seeing Lincoln last Thursday night and saw some of the comments on my article announcing Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Here I am, coming home from a film set during the 1800s where the search for equality is a major part of the storyline to see comments such as, “Electro is not black!!!” I shrug and read plenty more comments where similar ignorance is on display and they continue even today.

To the best of my knowledge, Electro (aka Maxwell “Max” Dillon) is just a guy that got hit by lightning and can now control electricity. I’m pretty sure that can happen to anyone unless black people have some special power that makes them averse to lightning. Because if that’s the case, I call “no fair” and want in on the secret.

I swear, the Internet will give people reason to complain about anything. If you’re going to complain about the race of a superhero villain why not just start a blog mad at the sun for rising every morning and, even worse, setting every evening? What kind of jerk tease is that big ball of fire anyway?

As for Lincoln, well, this new international trailer essentially allowed me to tell the story above, which is really the only reason I posted it. That and the fact Lincoln is a pretty great film and one I recommend you see once it begins hitting theaters this weekend followed by a wide release next Friday, November 16.

Now, if you don’t mind, I’m trying to put the final touches on my Skyfall review…
