I was looking forward to Brave and it turned out to be a bust, but other than that, going into 2012 none of the animated films really interested me. Then I caught the first trailer for Wreck-It Ralph, which looked quite good and has me hoping someone will finally deliver an animated film worth watching as we are getting close to the end of the year and nothing has really stood out.
From a studio perspective, I’ve heard Hotel Transylvania isn’t any good and I’m not sure what to think about Rise of the Guardians. The only other animated studio feature left is Frankenweenie and being that it’s a Tim Burton film I can’t make any judgments as it will permanently be on the “Wait and See” list.
There are plenty of art house animated features left to arrive such as Goro Miyazaki’s From Up On Poppy Hill and The Rabbi’s Cat to name a couple, but I’m specifically thinking of studio films right now and while I did have fun with the new Ice Age it isn’t great, The Lorax was a nightmare and admittedly I do still need to see The Pirates! Band of Misfits and Madagascar 3, the first of which I actually want to see and the latter I have no interest in after the first two.
All that said, a pair of new videos have arrived. First is the second trailer for Wreck-It Ralph, which arrives on November 2 and second is a clip from Frankenweenie, arriving a month earlier on October 5. Give ’em a look and share your thoughts on Oscar’s animated race as I will begin my Oscar predictions in just under two weeks from now and am always looking for thoughts from the audience.
