A new cut for Walter Salles‘s On the Road will play at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It’s a cut that will reportedly be 15 minutes shorter than the version I saw and reviewed in Cannes. Word from Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects and IFC Films, is that Salles took into consideration the reviews after the film’s France premiere and took a bit out and added a little back in.
The film, still, is based on Jack Kerouac’s Beat Generation novel, and features Garrett Hedlund as Dean Moriarty and Sam Riley as Kerouac’s alter ego, Salvatore Paradise, as the two young men journey across the North American landscape in pursuit of self-knowledge and experience. Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss, Alice Braga, Tom Sturridge, Terrence Howard and Steve Buscemi also contribute to the picture.
Sundance Selects is set to release On the Road on December 21. Have a look at the latest trailer and let me know if you’ll be in attendance.
