New ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ Trailer Brings Fincher’s Film to Life

Sony has just debuted a brand new trailer for David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, hot on the heels of last week’s buzz concerning an eight minute extended peek several movie bloggers saw in front of screenings of Straw Dogs. While this new trailer isn’t eight minutes long, it finally gives audiences a better look and more importantly, a listen at what they can expect following the rockin’ teaser trailer featuring Karen O and Trent Reznor‘s cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” This time you get a taste of Reznor’s score.

The film is based on Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling novel centering on a murder mystery looking as far back as 40 years at the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hits theaters on December 21. Have a look at the trailer below and share your thoughts in the comments. One thing I want to know, beyond how good you think it looks, is whether or not you think you’re looking at a Best Picture contender or do you think it may fall out of the Academy’s window?

When I saw the footage I got something of a Zodiac meets Se7en vibe, but on top of that it also feels like something totally new altogether. The number of over the shoulder shots are interesting and I personally can’t wait to see that POV shot of Lisbeth on her bike at the end of the trailer on the big screen.
