Horror Trailers: ‘[REC] 3’ Takes a Vow and ‘The Awakening’ Tells of Ghostly Haunts

A pair of trailers for a couple of upcoming horror films have appeared online recently beginning with Toronto Film Festival acquisition The Awakening, which was picked up by the Cohen Media Group and starring Rebecca Hall, Dominic West and Imelda Staunton and appears to be a film along the lines of modern ghost horror classics The Others and The Orphanage.

The film centers on Florence Cathcart (Hall) who’s haunted by the death of her fiance and is on a mission to expose all seances as exploitative shams. However, when she is called to a boys’ boarding school to investigate a case of the uncanny, she is gradually forced to confront her skepticism in the most terrifying way, shaking her scientific convictions and her sense of self to the very core.

The Awakening was directed by Nick Murphy and does not yet have a release date.

Next is an international teaser trailer for [REC] 3: Genesis, which I believe is supposed to be a prequel to the original and highly entertaining [REC] and will center on the origin of the original infection that caused humans to turn into zombies. However, I thought that was all figured out in the lackluster [REC] 2, but what do I know?

Original [REC] franchise helmers Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero have split duties on the upcoming [REC] features with Plaza directing Genesis and Balaguero directing [REC] 4: Apocalypse. Check out the teaser for Genesis directly below. The film does not yet have a domestic release date, but is expected to hit Spain theaters early next year.
