New ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ Trailer: Finally Something for the Stateside Release

Focus Features has done an impressive job of holding Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy so close to the chest and subsequently building word of mouth for it by merely doing nothing, thanks in large part to the upcoming September 16 UK release, that you have to give it to them for their marketing strategy. However, it is now time to begin the stateside marketing campaign as the first domestic trailer for the film based on John le Carre’s Cold War spy novel has debuted.

Starring an all-star cast including Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Stephen Graham, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds and John Hurt, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) and is set to hit US theaters on December 9. The film was my early Oscar predictions.

Set in the 1970s George Smiley (Oldman), a recently retired MI6 agent, is doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus, Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage.
