An international teaser trailer has arrived (via The Guardian) for The Iron Lady, which stars Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.
The Iron Lady was directed by Streep’s Mamma Mia! helmer Phyllida Lloyd and co-stars Jim Broadbent, Anthony Head, Richard E. Grant and Roger Allam.
The Weinstein Co. is set to debut the film domestically on December 16 and Streep is obviously looking like one of the year’s frontrunners for Oscar’s Best Actress. However, there are a few additional contenders in that category to discuss, which is something I will be bringing up a little later today in my first Oscar update of the new season.
