Watch: It’s ‘Paranormal Activity’ On the Moon in New ‘Apollo 18’ Trailer

I have no idea what to expect from Apollo 18 now that the Weinstein Co. has bounced it around the release date calendar that at one point had it hitting theaters as far out as January 2012. However, it appears they have finally decided on September 2 for the Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego-directed found footage feature purporting to depict lost recordings from Apollo 18’s mysterious mission to our lunar friend where, suffice to say, something very, very bad happened to the crew.

I detailed the story behind the film way back in December with an article headlined “‘Apollo 18’ Aims to Open Up an Alien Conspiracy… Is It Real or is It Fake?” which people seemed to enjoy reading, but it did begin to devolve into some rather silly arguments in the comments. So if you head over there perhaps it’s best to read the article and avoid the comments altogether.

Check out the new trailer below and I have added the official plot synopsis below that and if you’re interested in a trailer that gives away even more of the film’s secrets check out the teaser trailer here, which debuted back in February.

Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.
