First Trailer for ‘X-Men: First Class’ Arrives

I was a bit surprised Fox didn’t decide to use the Super Bowl to debut the first trailer for X-Men: First Class, but I guess that would have meant risking getting lost among the trailers for Captain America and Thor. Instead, they held off for just a little while longer and today bring you the first look at the next chapter in the X-Men saga.

The new film is a prequel to the trilogy you’ve already seen as Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) takes the story back to the beginning, before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, and follows the two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Here’s the trailer.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, Oliver Platt, Rose Byrne, Morgan Lily, January Jones, Zoe Kravitz, Bill Milner, Charlie Rowe and Ray Wise. X-Men: First Class is set to hit theaters on June 3.
