‘Win Win’ Trailer Debuts Following Sundance Premiere

Word out of Sundance was that Tom McCarthy’s Win Win is an — ahem — winner. McCarthy’s previous two films, The Station Agent and The Visitor, are both excellent so it really is no surprise this is yet another solid feature from the writer, director and actor.

This time he’s brought along Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Melanie Lynskey, Jeffrey Tambor and one of his Station Agent stars, Bobby Cannavale in a story said to explore the depths and nuances of human relationships. The film centers on Mike Flaherty (Giamatti), a disheartened attorney moonlighting as a high school wrestling coach, who stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything.

Win Win isn’t one of those films that was found at Sundance, even though it pretty much fits the description of most Sundance films. Fox Searchlight already had dibs on it and will release it in theaters on March 18, though it will screen at the South by Southwest Film Festival in early mid-March.
