New Trailer for ‘The Dilemma’ Arrives Amidst ‘It’s Gay’ Controversy

If you’ve been paying attention recently Universal’s upcoming film The Dilemma, directed by Ron Howard and starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Queen Latifah and Channing Tatum, came under fire recently from Anderson Cooper as he had a chat with Ellen DeGeneres on her show as they discussed teen bullying and specifically the bullying against gays that has resulted in an uptick in media coverage related to suicides caused due to taunting.

Cooper addressed a clip he’d seen in a the previously released trailer for The Dilemma in which Vaughn’s character denigrates an electric car, saying, “It’s gay.” Cooper felt the comment was insulting to gays saying, “I just find those words, those terms — we’ve got to do something to make those words unacceptable ’cause those words are hurting kids.” The line in question does not appear in the new trailer as GLAAD also weighed in on the issue.

The studio issued a statement saying, “The teaser trailer for The Dilemma was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today.”

All of that said, a new trailer for The Dilemma is now available, centering on the story of two best friends and business partners (Vaughn and James), one of which is tortured when he observes his pal’s wife (Ryder) getting intimate with another man in a restaurant. Should he tell?

Check out the trailer below, the film is set to hit theaters on January 14, 2011. I’d love to hear your thoughts, not only on the trailer, but on the issue at hand. I’ve included both versions below.
