Emilia Clarke on Terminator Genisys, her new Sarah Connor and wanting to play the “female James Bond”
This week, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are jump-starting the Terminator franchise with a new big screen entry, Terminator Genisys, directed by Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor. Taylor’s not the only “Game of Thrones” alum aboard the project, however, as Emilia Clarke — known to many as “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys Targaryen — steps into the role of Sarah Connor. (Oddly enough, she’s the second “Thrones” actress to do so after Lena Headey’s headling role on “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”).
ComingSoon.net had the chance to sit down with the cast of Terminator Genisys and, all this week, we’ll be bringing you video interviews with the stars! In the player below, you can check out our conversation with Clarke, who discusses the franchise’s unique approach to a sequel, Sarah Connor’s long-forgotten pet iguana, Pugsley, and where she’d like to see her career take her in the future, beginning with a “female James Bond.”
In the film, when John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
Also starring J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matthew Smith, Courtney B. Vance and Byung-Hun Lee, Terminator Genisys features a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The movie will hit theaters on July 1, 2015 and is the first in a planned trilogy of films (something we’ll have a lot more on in our final video).
