From director Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer) and producer/star George Lopez (School Dance, Rio 2) comes Spare Parts, a new feature film hitting theaters this Friday with a cast that also includes Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler, My Cousin Vinny), Jamie Lee Curtis (True Lies, Freaky Friday), Jose Julian (A Better Life), Alessandra Rosaldo (Instructions Not Included), Carlos PenaVega (“Big Time Rush”), David Del Rio (Pitch Perfect) and Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids, Machete Kills).
Spare Parts follows four Hispanic high school students who form a robotics club under the leadership of their school’s newest teacher, Fredi (Lopez). With no experience, $800, used car parts and a dream, this rag tag team goes up against the country’s reigning robotics champion, MIT. On their journey, they learn not only how to build a robot- they learn to build a bond that will last a lifetime.
ComingSoon.net sat down with the cast and crew of Spare Parts to talk about the film’s motivational message, the importance of bringing inspiring tales to the big screen and what lengths the production went to to do justice to the original team of students’ incredible tale. Check it out in the player below!
Spare Parts arrives in theaters in a limited release this Friday, January 16.
