CS Video: Ethan Hawke on Predestination, Time Travel and Why He Loves Sci-Fi

One of the first releases to hit the big screen in 2015 is Predestination, a time-travel thriller based on Starship Troopers and Strange in a Strange Land author Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 short story “All You Zombies,” starring Ethan Hawke (Before Midnight, Boyhood) and relative newcomer Sarah Snook (Jessabelle). ComingSoon.net had the chance to sit down for an exclusive conversation with the former and you can check out Hawke’s thoughts in the player below!

Directed by the Spierig Brothers (the sibling pair responsible for 2003’s Undead and 2009’s Daybreakers), Predestination chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to prevent future killers from committing their crimes. Now, on his final assignment, the Agent must stop the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time and prevent a devastating attack in which thousands of lives will be lost.

In the below video, Hawke both professes his love for the science fiction genre and explains how Predestination shares a bit more in common with films like Boyhood and Before Midnight than you might suspect. Please be aware, however, that the below video does contain some minor spoilers so, if you want to remain 100% spoiler free, check back after you’ve had the chance to see the film.

Also scripted by Michael and Peter Spierig, Predestination will hit both theaters and On Demand January 9. If you missed it late last year, you can check out the first seven minutes of the film right here.
