The cast of The Phoenician Scheme includes Benicio del Toro as one of the richest men in Europe, Zsa-zsa Korda; Mia Threapleton as Zsa-zsa Korda’s daughter; and Michael Cera as del Toro’s daughter’s tutor.

Tom Hanks, Riz Ahmed, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis also star in the movie.

“The story of a family and a family business,” the synopsis for the movie reads.

Anderson co-wrote the screenplay for The Phoenician Scheme with Roman Coppola. Anderson also produces the movie via his American Empirical Pictures banner alongside Steven Rales, Jeremy Dawson, and John Peet.

This marks Anderson’s third time collaborating with Focus Features following Asteroid City and Moonrise Kingdom, the latter of which was released in 2012.

Anderson received his first-ever Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards. He won Best Live Action Short for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which is based on a Roald Dahl short story and stars Cumberbatch as the titular character. Anderson also made three other short films based on Dahl’s work — The Swan, The Rat Catcher, and Poison — all of which were released in 2023 and are available to stream on Netflix.

Beyond the aforementioned titles, Anderson’s filmography includes 1996’s Bottle Rocket, 1998’s Rushmore, 2001’s The Royal Tenenbaums, 2004’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, 2007’s The Darjeeling Limited, 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, 2014’s The Grand Budapest Hote., 2019’s Isle of Dogs, and 2021’s The French Dispatch.

The Phoenician Scheme will receive a limited theatrical release on May 30, 2025, before it then expands nationwide on June 6, 2025.
