Magnolia Pictures has released The Assessment trailer for its newest sci-fi thriller movie, which had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It is now slated to arrive in theaters on March 21, 2025. Prior to its theatrical release, the film has already garnered a Tomatometer rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who is in The Assessment trailer?
The video features a closer look at the main cast, which will be led by Emmy nominee Elizabeth Olsen as Mia and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as Virginia. The ensemble cast also includes Himesh Patel (Tenet), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life), Charlotte Ritchie (Ghosts), and Leah Harvey (Foundation).
“The film follows Mia and Aaryan, a successful couple who hope to become parents in a near future where resources are extremely limited and the government keeps firm control over reproduction,” reads the official synopsis. “They are assigned an assessor named Virginia, who moves into their home for seven days to evaluate whether they deserve to move forward in their parenting journey. What Mia and Aaryan are hoping is a routine test quickly unravels into a psychological nightmare, forcing them to question the very foundations of their society and what it truly means to be human.”
The Assessment is directed by French filmmaker Fleur Fortuné in his feature directorial debut from a screenplay written by Nell Garfath-Cox, Dave Thomas and John Donnelly. The film is executive produced by Tom Brady, Connor Flanagan, Allen Gilmer, William Bruce Johnson, Carlotta Löffelholz, Rusta Mizani, Thomas K Richards, Madeleine K. Rudin, Veronica Rushing, Jonathan Saubach, and William Shockley, with Julie Goldstein, Grant S. Johnson, Elizabeth Karlsen, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, Shivani Rawat, and Stephen Woolley serving as producers. It is a production by Number 9 Films and Filmproduktion.
