Searchlight Pictures has announced the A Complete Unknown IMAX release date for its latest biographical drama, starring Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet. This comes after a week since the Bob Dylan biopic made its theatrical release.

When is the A Complete Unknown IMAX release date?

A Complete Unknown is officially heading to IMAX theaters this Friday, January 3, 2025. Since making its debut, the film has been garnering positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 193 reviews. The film is also currently nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.

A Complete Unknown was directed by James Mangold from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jay Cocks based on author Elijah Wald’s book titled Dylan Goes Electric. The cast also includes Edward Norton as Peter Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax, and P.J. Byrne as Harold Leventhal. Producers are Fred Berger, Mangold, Alex Heineman, Bob Bookman, Peter Jaysen, Alan Gasmer, Jeff Rosen, and Chalamet. It is executive produced by Dylan along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Andrew Rona.

“Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, the film follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts — his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation — culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
