Paramount Pictures has shared a new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 clip from the highly-anticipated next installment to the blockbuster action comedy franchise, based on Sega‘s iconic video game series of the same name. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters this Friday, December 20.
“Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before,” reads the official synopsis. “With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”

What happens in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 clip?
The video provides fans with a preview of Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails’ competitive race, as they compete with each other to determine who will become the new family champion. It also teases the family dynamic within Team Sonic.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Ben Schwartz‘s titular speedster will officially be getting a new formidable rival in the form of Shadow the Hedgehog, who is being voiced by John Wick star Keanu Reeves. Before Reeves’ casting was confirmed, fans were previously speculating that Star Wars vet Hayden Christensen might be voicing the fan-favorite character.
The third installment is directed by Jeff Fowler from a screenplay written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The ensemble cast will also feature Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Elba as Knuckles, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Alyla Brown as Maria, Krysten Ritter, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, James Wolk, and more. The film is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Hajime Satomi, Toby Ascher, Tim Miller, Nan Morales, and Toru Nakahara.
