Moana 2 Video Unveils New Look at the Sequel’s Villain

Walt Disney Animation has released a brand new Moana 2 video for the highly-anticipated animated sequel to the acclaimed 2016 movie. It is currently slated to arrive in theaters on November 27, 2024.

“The film reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers,” reads the official synopsis. “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”

What happens in the new Moana 2 video?

The video teases the introduction of the sequel’s newest villain named Matangi, who is being voiced by Awhimai Fraser. She aims to stop the titular hero’s plans of reconnecting the people of the ocean. Prior to joining the cast of Moana 2, Fraser previously lent her voice to Elsa and Dolores Madrigal for the Māori dubs of Frozen and Encanto, respectively.

Directed and written by David G. Derrick Jr., Moana 2 will feature the voices of Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Rachel House as Tala, Alan Tudyk as Heihei and more. The original was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. It was not only a commercial success with a gross of over $600 million, but it also earned positive reviews from critics and earned two Oscar nominations including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
