What do we know about Companion?

Companion marks Hancock’s feature film directorial debut, though Hancock previously worked as a writer on television series such as Blue Mountain State, Suburgatory, Mr. Pickles, My Dead Ex, and more.

The movie is produced by Vertigo’s Roy Lee, BoulderLight’s Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz, Miri Yoon, and Zach Creeger, the latter of whom directed 2022’s Barbarian with Bill Skarsgård, Georgina Campbell, and Justin Long.

According to a The Hollywood Reporter story published in May 2023, Companion was originally going to be Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian; however, he instead decided to make Weapons, which is now scheduled to be released in 2026, instead. “The team helped Companion land not just a home but greenlit the start of production, backing Hancock to make his directorial debut,” the article reads.

BoulderLight’s Tracy Rosenblum and Vertigo’s Andrew Childs serve as executive producers for Companion.

Quaid, the son of Meg Ryan and The Substance’s Dennis Quaid, is known for starring in Prime Video’s The Boys. He voices Clark Kent in My Adventures with Superman and Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks, while his filmography includes 2012’s The Hunger Games, 2017’s Logan Lucky, 2017’s Tragedy Girls, 2018’s Rampage, 2022’s Scream, 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and 2023’s Oppenheimer.

The cast of the movie also includes Sophie Thatcher (Heretic, The Boogeyman), Lukas Gage (Smile 2, Euphoria), Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), and Rupert Friend (Homeland).

Companion will be released in United States theaters on January 10, 2025, from Warner Bros.
