Disney has released a new Moana 2 trailer, previewing the highly anticipated sequel to 2016’s hit animated film. The new trailer shows off an even deeper look at the upcoming film, which will see Auli’i Cravalho return to play Moana, with Dwayne Johnson also returning to play the demigod Maui.
Moana 2 is set to be directed by David G. Derrick Jr. More casting information is unknown at this time. The sequel is set to release in theaters on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

What do we know about Moana 2?
“Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
The original film was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. It was not only a commercial success with a gross of over $600 million, but it also earned positive reviews from critics and earned two Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
