Studiocanal has dropped the official Wicked Little Letters trailer for its upcoming black comedy mystery, which reunites The Lost Daughter co-stars Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley. The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and is slated to arrive in U.K. theaters on February 23, 2024. As for its international release date, no announcements have been made at the moment.
In the video, an unusual scandal rocks the seaside town of Littlehampton, when women in their community began receiving letters filled with harsh profanities targeting them. Because of her carefree spirit and loud personality, Buckley’s Rose becomes their number one suspect behind the insulting letters. However, after Colman’s Edith unexpectedly forms a friendship with Rose, they realized that Rose isn’t the culprit. This leads them to team up with the other women in their town to find the real suspect.

What to expect in Wicked Little Letters?
“A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy,” reads the synopsis. “The film follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding. When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women – led by Police Officer Gladys Moss – begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.”
Based on a true story, Wicked Little Letters is directed by Thea Sharrock from a screenplay written by Jonny Sweet. Joining Colman and Buckley are Timothy Spall, Anjana Vasan, Alisha Weir, Gemma Jones, Lolly Adefope, Jason Watkins, Eileen Atkins, Hugh Skinner, Malachi Kirby and more.
The film is executive produced by Jo Wallett, Ron Halpern, Anna Marsh, Joe Naftalin, Daniel Battsek, Ollie Madden, Farhana Bhula, Jonny Sweet and Simon Bird. It hails from Blueprint Pictures and South of the River Pictures.
