Poor Things Trailer Shows Emma Stone as a Frankenstein Experiment

The official Poor Things trailer for Searchlight Pictures‘ forthcoming sci-fi period comedy, starring Oscar winner Emma Stone as a young woman who comes back to life through a Frankenstein-like experiment. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 8. Its current theatrical release will see it go up against The Nun 2 and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. What to Expect in Poor Things?

Poor Things is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay written by Tony McNamara, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel of the same name which is a reimagination of the Frankenstein story. The project also reunites Lanthimos and McNamara with Stone after previously working together in the acclaimed dramedy The Favourite.

“The film is an incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter,” reads the synopsis. “Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”

Joining Stone are Willem Dafoe as Godwin Baxter, Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn, Ramy Youssef as Max McCandless, Jerrod Carmichael as Harry Astley, Christopher Abbott as Sir Aubrey de la Pole Blessington, Margaret Qualley as Felicity, and Kathryn Hunter as Swiney.
