The official Somewhere in Queens trailer for Ray Romano‘s forthcoming feature directorial debut has been released by Roadside Flix, featuring Romano as a father trying to help his teenage son get a basketball scholarship. The comedy-drama will arrive in theaters on April 21.
The video features Romano and Laurie Metcalf as a married couple from Queens. They have a son named Sticks, who’s very talented at playing basketball. When an opportunity arrives for Sticks to be scouted for a basketball scholarship, his father will do everything he can to lead Sticks to a better future.
Somewhere in Queens is directed and produced by Romano from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Stegemann. The film will also star Jacob Ward, Sadie Stanley, Jennifer Esposito, Jon Manfrelloti, Sebastian Maniscalco, Tony Lo Bianco, Erik Griffin, June Gable, Dierdre Friel, and more.
“Leo Russo (Romano) lives a simple life in Queens, New York with his wife Angela (Metcalf), their shy but talented son “Sticks” (Ward), and Leo’s close-knit network of Italian-American relatives and neighborhood friends,” reads the synopsis. “Happy enough working at the family construction business alongside his father (Lo Bianco) and younger brother (Maniscalco), Leo lives each week for Sticks’ high-school basketball games, never missing a chance to cheer on his only child as he rules the court as a star athlete. When the high-school senior gets a surprising and life-changing opportunity to play basketball in college, Leo jumps at the chance to provide a plan for his future, away from the family construction business. But when sudden heartbreak threatens to derail Sticks, Leo goes to unexpected lengths to keep his son on this new path.”
The film is produced by Stegemann, Albert Beger, Ally Romano, and Ron Yerxa, with Amy Greene and Chris Stinson executive producing. It hails from Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate.
