Ahead of its debut this Friday, Universal Pictures has dropped the Firestarter clip for Blumhouse’s modern remake of the Stephen King’s classic thriller novel. The film is scheduled for a simultaneous debut in theaters and on Peacock on May 13.
The video features Zac Efron’s Andy as he pleads with his daughter’s captor to let her go before he gets hurt. However, after continuing to ignore Andy’s warnings, the scared and confused Charlie unleashes her dangerous power by blasting him away.

“For more than a decade, parents Andy and Vicky have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction,” reads the synopsis. “Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans. ”
The Firestarter remake stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong (The Tomorrow War), who has been cast for the leading role of Charlie McGee, a character that was famously portrayed by a young Drew Barrymore in Mark L. Lester’s 1984 adaptation. Joining Armstrong is Zac Efron as Andy McGee, Sydney Lemmon as Vicky McGee, Michael Greyeyes as John Rainbird, John Beasley, Kurtwood Smith, and Emmy nominee Gloria Reuben.

The Firestarter remake is directed by rising filmmaker Keith Thomas (The Vigil) from a screenplay written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills). The film’s score is composed by the legendary John Carpenter and his fellow Halloween franchise composers Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.
Producers are Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman, with the original film’s associate producer Martha De Laurentiis, Ryan Turek, Gregory Lessans, Scott Teems, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules set as executive producers. It is a production by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Weed Road Pictures.
