Neon has dropped the official Crimes of the Future trailer for David Cronenberg’s newest sci-fi body horror film, starring Viggo Mortensen. It is set to arrive in select New York and Los Angeles theaters on June 3, followed by a wide theatrical release on June 10.
The film has also recently received an R-rating from the MPAA for “strong disturbing violent content and grisly images, graphic nudity, and some language,” which is clearly evident throughout the trailer.

Set in a not-so-distant future, Crimes of the Future is written and directed by David Cronenberg (The Fly, Maps to the Stars). It stars Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar, Lihi Kornowski, Tanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Yorgos Karamichos, and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
“In the film, as the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations,” reads the synopsis. “With his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin, an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”
The film marks Cronenberg and Mortensen’s third collab, after working together on the acclaimed A History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Production took place in Athens, Greece.
