Netflix has released the official Metal Lords trailer for its upcoming coming-of-age comedy film, which hails from Game of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. It will be available for streaming on April 8.
The video features a two-member metal band as they try to search for a bassist in order to qualify for an upcoming Battle of the Bands. One of them finds the third member they’re looking for in the form of a hot-heated cello player. However, her addition will cause tension between the two friends, who are just trying to show the world their love for metal music.
Metal Lords is directed by Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) from a screenplay written by Weiss. It will be led by Jaeden Martell (IT films, Knives Out), Isis Hainsworth (Emma), and newcomer Adrian Greensmith. Additional cast includes Noah Urrea, Analesa Fisher, Michelle Fang, Phelan Davis, Brett Gelman, Sufe Bradshaw, and Joe Manganiello.
“Two kids want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal,” reads the synopsis. “Hunter is a diehard metal fan —is there any other kind?— who knows his history and can shred. His dream in life is to win at the upcoming Battle of the Bands. He enlists his best friend Kevin to man the drums. But with schoolmates more interested in Bieber than Black Sabbath, finding a bassist is a struggle. Until Kevin overhears Emily slaying on her cello. The motley crew must contend with school, parents, hormones and teen angst while trying to get along long enough for Skullf*cker to win the Battle of the Bands.”
