A Boy Called Christmas Trailer Previews Netflix’s Fantasy Holiday Film

Netflix has revealed the official trailer for the upcoming fantasy adventure film titled A Boy Called Christmas, based on Matt Haig’s 2015 children’s book of the same name. Starring Maggie Smith, Sally Hawkins, Kristen Wiig, and Henry Lawfull, the film will be available for streaming on November 24, 2021.

The A Boy Called Christmas trailer, which you can check out below along with the key art poster, teases the origins of the titular holiday. It introduces a young boy named Nikolas who goes on a perilous journey to find the village of elves in hopes of bringing back magic to the world.

A Boy Called Christmas is directed by Oscar nominee Gil Kenan (Monster House) from a screenplay he co-write with Ol Parker. Joining newcomer Henry Lawfull are Oscar winners Maggie Smith (Harry Potter films), and Jim Broadbent (Iris) along with Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Golden Globe nominee Toby Jones (The Girl), and Emmy nominee Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids). The film will also feature Stephen Merchant, Joel Fry, Michiel Huisman, Zoe Colletti, Rune Temte, Indica Watson, and Rishi Kuppa.

“An ordinary young boy called Nikolas sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his father who is on a quest to discover the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm,” reads the synopsis. “Taking with him a headstrong reindeer called Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse, Nikolas soon meets his destiny in this magical, comic, and endearing story that proves nothing is impossible.”

A Boy Called Christmas is a production by Netflix, Blueprint Pictures, and StudioCanal. The Oscar-wining team at Framestore handled the film’s visual effects, with Gary Williamson serving as a production designer.
