Blumhouse has released the official trailer for The Purge director James DeMonaco’s upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama film titled This is the Night, starring Frank Grillo, Naomi Watts, and more. The film will be having a one-week theatrical run, starting tomorrow, September 17, followed by its VOD release on September 21.
The This is the Night trailer, which you can check out in the player below, features a young Italian-American teenager as he along with his two friends get inspired by the courage and tenacity of their hero Rocky Balboa, which includes finally chasing the girl of his dreams.

Described as a love letter to cinema, This is the Night is written and directed by James DeMonaco, who is the filmmaker behind Blumhouse’s The Purge franchise. The coming-of-age film will reunite DeMonaco with frequent collaborator Frank Grillo, who is starring alongside Naomi Watts, and Bobby Cannavale. It will also be led by up-and-coming actors including Lucius Hoyos, Jonah Hauer-King, River Alexander, Chase Vacnin, and Madelyn Cline.
“The film is set in 1982, as all of Staten Island anticipates the opening of the blockbuster film, Rocky III,” reads the synopsis. “An Italian American family must confront their greatest challenges just like their onscreen hero does. In the end they realize that there is only one way to live: Like there’s no tomorrow.”

This is the Night is a production by Blumhouse and Man in a Tree Productions. It is produced by Jason Blum and Sebastien K. Lemercier, with Watts and Kate Driver serving as executive producers.
