ComingSoon is excited to debut an exclusive The East clip. The war drama, which is out today on video on demand services, stars Martijn Lakemeyer, Marwan Kenzari, and Jonas Smulders. The film is directed by Jim Taihuttu, who also wrote the script with Mustafa Duygulu.
“During the post-WW2 Indonesian War of Independence, a young Dutch soldier joins an elite unit led by a mysterious captain known only as ‘The Turk,'” says the official synopsis. “When the fighting intensifies, the young soldier finds himself questioning – and ultimately challenging – his commander’s brutal strategy to stop the resistance.”
Our clip features an intense conversation over food. “Do you know what they call me? They call me Ratu Adil. The rightful ruler. According to an ancient myth, he’s a warrior from the Middle East who frees the people from their oppressors,” says Marwan Kenzari’s character, Raymond Westerling.
