Oscilloscope Laboratories has released the official trailer (via EW) for actor-director Justin Chon’s forthcoming drama film titled Ms. Purple, highlighting the difficulties of an Asian-American woman who forgets about her ambitions in order to tend to her father’s medical needs. The film had its world premiere earlier this year at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled to have its theatrical release in select theaters on September 6.

Ms. Purple is a poignant drama about Asian American sister and brother, Kasie (Tiffany Chu) and Carey (Teddy Lee), who were raised and are now seemingly stuck in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Abandoned by their mother and brought up by their father, the siblings continue to struggle with deep emotional wounds from the difficulty of the parental dynamic. Now, with their father on his death bed, the estranged Carey comes home to help Kasie care for him. As they reunite over their dying father, Kasie and Carey confront their shared past, attempting to mend their relationship.

The film was directed and written by actor Justin Chon, who is known for directing the 2017 drama film Gook which had won the Next Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. It stars Tiffany Chu, Teddy Lee, Octavio Pizano, and James Kang. The drama was also produced by Chon, Alex Chi, and Alan Pao.
Ms. Purple will arrive in theaters in Los Angeles on September 6 and on September 13 in New York City.
