BrightBurn Trailer: James Gunn Subverts Superman’s Origin as a Horror Movie

For the better part of the year we’ve heard about casting for the previous “Untitled James Gunn Horror Movie” from Sony Pictures and Screen Gems. Now, the studio has revealed the first trailer for the film which is officially titled BrightBurn. The film is described as follows:

“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

BrightBurn is directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive) and written by Mark Gunn & Brian Gunn. Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) stars alongside David Denman (13 Hours, Power Rangers), Jackson A. Dunn (Shameless), Matt Jones (Mom, Home) and Meredith Hagner (YoungerSet it Up).  James Gunn produces, with executive producers Mark Gunn, Brian Gunn, Dan Clifton, Simon Hatt, and Nic Crawley.  The H Collective fully financed the feature and produced alongside Gunn’s company, Troll Court Entertainment. Screen Gems will release the film wide theatrically in the U.S over Memorial Day Weekend, on May 24 2019 as well as most international territories.

Earlier this year, The H Collective entered into a deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) to distribute and market films globally, with Brightburnbeing the first picture under the partnership.

“We are proud to debut this trailer first to the fans! It’s even more poignant as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of The H Collective,” said The H Collective CEO Nic Crawley.  “We’ve assembled a remarkably talented team with James and Dave, bringing this project to life has been nothing short of fantastic. We’re extremely proud of our partnership with Sony and look forward to sharing this film with audiences around the world.”

The H Collective, which launched in October 2017, is a global film finance, production, marketing and distribution company producing and financing a diversified slate of high-quality films including horror, action comedy and franchise IP.  The H Collective recently acquired the xXx franchise with Vin Diesel’s One Race Films and are in pre-production on the franchise’s fourth installment.
