Many saw the first Shrek film and most loved it so why not a sequel right? Well the big green guy is at it again and he succeeds, while not to the point of his predecessor, he does succeed.
Shrek 2 follows Shrek and Princess Fiona after their honeymoon until the inevitable happens and it is time for Shrek to meet the parents. So along with Donkey they head on home to Far, Far Away and all the land is readying for her return, but once they make their arrival the King and Queen not only see whom she has brought home but they also see the changes she has endured.
Little did Shrek and Fiona know that this threw a major monkey wrench in her father’s plans so he enlists the help of the local Fairy Godmother, her son Prince Charming and the dashing Puss in Boots in attempt to set straight the happy “fairy-tale” ending.
All the gangs is back from Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy as the ever popular four legged friend, Donkey, and this flick is sure to be a blockbuster even though it does have a few problems getting started, but is ultimately saved by a hilarious ending.
Throughout the first hour or so of the film you are certain to get a few chuckles, but things don’t really get kicked off until Puss in Boots is introduced. I must not go any further here without saying that Antonio Banderas adds so much to this little feline’s character with this suave voice, but it isn’t until the end that you really get your money’s worth as the final 15 minutes of the film make up for the first 75 percent.
Also, I must tell you to stick around after the first round of credits for a special reunion that is altogether unexpected.
There isn’t a lot more I can say about the film other than it works. It is the first film with different jokes, which means, “Yeah I have seen this but what have you done for me lately?” There is nothing to sweep you off your feet and nothing to send you home packing.
Shrek 2 comes to the theater to do what it’s got to do, and that is fill seats, make money and entertain you for 90 minutes, and to that end it succeeds. So I give this film my stamp of approval and wish you well on your journey to a land Far, Far Away.
