‘Chasing Liberty’ Movie Review (2004)

There will be no convincing fans of Mandy Moore or those that find Matthew Goode irresistible that Chasing Liberty is not the movie to see in the theaters, but I can warn the rest of you.

Mandy Moore has managed to achieve stardom through her music and has turned that stardom into a respectable movie career, but Chasing Liberty will not be a highlight of that career.

Moore plays Anna Foster, the First Daughter, and is feeling trapped due to her father’s status as President, but while on a diplomatic trip to Europe with her parents, Anna escapes from her father’s grip and runs off with Ben Calder (Goode), who aids her European getaway. Unknowingly to Anna, Ben is a British Secret Service agent keeping tabs on her while on her journey.

Need I say more? Chasing Liberty is a movie that doesn’t stray far from any other movies of its kind as you can tell what may, and will, happen at every turn, then again does that mean you shouldn’t go see it?

Well, one thing that can be said is that Chasing Liberty serves its purpose and will satisfy all Mandy fans looking for the whirlwind love story, and the acting of Matthew Goode is promising to a point that you realize you may be looking at a soon-to-be star.

But for someone looking for something more than what you have seen before this won’t be your choice.

It is unseen what will become of Mandy’s career in acting, but it is easy to say that this won’t be her breakout role.

Moore and Goode have a moderate amount of chemistry but the high amount of cliche moments in this film leave it wanting.
