Well, if you are looking to be cheered up Thirteen isn’t the way to go, but if you are looking for great acting and an intriguing story definitely look to Thirteen.
Thirteen is an unflinching look at the sometimes-harsh world of a young teen trying to fit in with a fast group of seventh graders in Los Angeles. A lot of people may look at this one as a little bit too extreme and not quite real but you may want to reconsider once you learn that the movie is inspired by the experiences and co-written by Nikki Reed, who plays Evie, the most popular girl in school.
The story tells the tale of 13-year-old Tracy (Wood) who tries at every level to impress Evie and get in with her crowd. Once inside she finds herself in a downward spiral of drugs, sex, and emotions out of control. Her relationship with her mother (Hunter) begins to deteriorate as she seems to be blind to what is going on with her daughter.
Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed give inspiring performances in a story that makes you gasp more than you may at any recent horror flick. Scenes of drug use and razor blades can only make you quiver and for some they had to turn their heads.
While this is Nikki Reed’s only project you can find Evan Rachel Wood in the upcoming movie The Missing and two more in 2004. I tend to rate an actor or actresses performances on their ability to show emotion and Wood brings home the gold in her performance in Thirteen, I can’t wait to see more of her.
