Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is declaration for Sam Rockwell as it proclaims him a bonafide star.
Rockwell has had mediocre success at the box office with films such as Heist and Welcome to Colinwood recently, but Confessions of a Dangerous Mind really shows the talent he has.
In a motion picture directed by George Clooney, Rockwell plays Chuck Barris, legendary showman and creator of game shows such as The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game, and The Gong Show. The script is based on Barris’ own memoirs in which he proclaims himself to not only be a television star, but a CIA hit man. Sounds a little sketchy eh? Well, either way it does entertain.
Rockwell is electric and the cast surrounding him seem to radiate from his energy. One actress that turns in the performance of her life is Drew Barrymore. Playing the role of Penny, Barris’ longtime girlfriend, she takes the hits as they keep on coming and stands by her man throughout, but she is able to take the emotional roller coaster and portray each and every emotion that comes to surface.
We also can’t forget George Clooney who not only directs this one, but plays the role of the CIA recruiter assigning Barris to his various jobs around the globe. Each job is another hit but Barris can’t get around these jobs alone, cue Julia Roberts.
Linked to George Clooney through Ocean’s Eleven, Roberts once again steps onto the same stage as Patricia, the contact on the other side, guiding Barris through his various “hits.”
Through the twists and turns Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, offers viewers a glimpse into a life of someone either that has experienced more than any of us could imagine or he is just extremely delusional. Either way it is entertaining and a pleasure to watch.
