THR is reporting that Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin will direct Hercules 3D from Millennium Films, not to be confused with the MGM and Paramount Pictures Hercules film starring Dwayne Johnson.Hercules 3D has been in development since 2007 and the film features a script written by Sean Hood and Hanna Weg.
“It’s not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing,” Harlin said. “It’s closer to Gladiator than flying horses.
Harlin also spoke about ‘competing’ with the Brett Ratner helmed film (which is scheduled to be released August 8, 2014).
“I think these are very different kinds of movies in their approach to this legendary character. Obviously, Hercules has been portrayed in many different films, such as the Disney animated movie. I wish them luck. Ancient Greek mythology is an endless source of good stories … Let’s see both movies be successful.”
Hercules 3D is set to be released in March of 2014.
