Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in the The Good Lie, to directed by Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar) from a screenplay by Margaret Nagle (Warm Springs).
Inspired by true events, The Good Lie follows a young refugee of the Sudanese Civil War who wins a lottery for relocation to the United States with three other lost boys. Encountering the modern world for the first time, they develop an unlikely friendship with a brash American woman assigned to help them, but the young man struggles to adjust to this new life and his feelings of guilt about the brother he left behind.
The Good Lie will be produced by Molly Smith’s (The Blind Side) newly formed production and financing company Black Label Media. Along with the Black Label Media partners, Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Karen Kehela Sherwood are producers and Imagine’s Kim Roth and Reliance’s Deepak Nayar are named executive producers.
