The House That Jack Built is psychological thriller that follows the story of a serial killer Jack (Dillon), who looks back on the four murders that proved instrumental in his development as a cold-blooded killer. The film also stars Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road), Siobhan Fallon Hogan (We Need To Talk About Kevin), Sofie Grabol (The Killing) and Bruno Ganz (Downfall, Unknown). Thurman, Keough, Fallon Hogan, and Grabol are the film’s four women victims.
This is Von Trier’s second controversial film following Nymphomaniac which starred William Dafoe, Shia LaBeouf, Mia Goth (Suspiria) and Jamie Bell (Skin). The House That Jack Built has received mix reviews from the audience and the critics when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival due to its graphic violence against women, children and animals.
Originally planned as an eight-part, English-language TV series, the film is produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa Group in a co-production with Film i Väst, Copenhagen Film Fund and Slot Machine.
IFC Films is handling the U.S. theatrical distribution rights to the film and haven’t given it an official release date. Meanwhile, the film is set to premiere on November 29 in Denmark.
