Mark Romanek has stepped aside as the director of Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming live-action take on Cinderella, Deadline reports. The outlet claims that Romanek’s take on the material was darker than what Disney had in mind.
First announced in 2010, the live-action project will feature a script by Chris Weitz and will feature a brand-new take on the classic fairytale, which has its origins in the 1st century BC.
Cate Blanchett was, late last year, attached to the role of the evil stepmother and, shortly thereafter, a short list of actresses for the title role was said to include Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Gabriella Wilde.
The search is now underway for a new director. Check back for updates on the project as soon as they become available.
