Sony is developing the 2008 novel Storming Las Vegas with Shutter Island author Dennis Lehane, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The book, written by John Huddy, follows the true exploits of Jose Vigoa, who orchestrated a series of robberies in Las Vegas.
“Over the span of 16 months, the Cuban-born Vigoa and his crew evaded police as they stole millions from some of the biggest players on the strip — MGM Grand, the Desert Inn, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio and New York-New York — through robberies of armored trucks and casino heists. Lt. John Alamshaw (a 23-year police veteran) was in charge of Vegas’ robbery detectives, and was tasked with bringing Vigoa to justice.”
The novel was previously in the hands of director Antoine Fuqua and Summit Entertainment, with plans for a feature adaptation set in motion in 2011. However, said plans never materialized and Sony then acquired the rights to the project.
