Deadline reports that Emmy-nominated director Hiro Murai (Atlanta, This Is America) is in talks to helm the 20th Century Fox feature Man Alive, a sci-fi thriller that was bought as a spec script by Joe Greenberg and rewritten by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows). Man Alive would serve as Murai’s feature directorial debut.
Man Alive covers the events following the invasion of earth by an alien species when a man faced with isolation and loneliness in order to survive realizes he might not be alone after all. Matt Reilly will be overseeing the film for Fox.
Murai is well-known for his work on the FX series Atlanta, starring Donald Glover, which was recently renewed for a third season by the network. He also directed Glover in his Childish Gambino persona in the provocative music video for This Is America.
Murai’s other TV credits include Barry, Snowfall, and Legion, and he has directed a number of Childish Gambino videos as well as other music videos and short films starring a variety of musicians such as Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Usher, and Lupe Fiasco. Following his work on Atlanta, Murai recently signed a first-look deal with FX.
