Sicario 2 director Stefano Sollima to take the helm on Call of Duty film for Activision Studios

Call of Duty film is in the works at Activision Studios and Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima is going to direct, according to Variety. The film division of Activision Blizzard Studios is in negotiations with Sollima to direct an adaptation of the game franchise, though Activision Blizzard has not yet commented on the news.

Activision Blizzard Studios’s Presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk are reportedly producing with chief executive Boby Kotick. There is currently no writer or distributor for the Call of Duty film. There are no details on the story for the film, but Sher and van Dyk have spoken about turning the franchise into a cinematic universe. The site reports that the specific era for the film is likely to be present day, though it’s not been confirmed.

Stefano Sollima is known for being the main director on the crime series Gomorra and Sicario 2: Soldado will hit theaters on June 29. The film stars Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin, who will reprise their roles from the first film.
