Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen cast in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, with Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes and Tom Holland voicing animals
Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro, Genius) is set to join the upcoming Universal Pictures film The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle with Michael Sheen (TRON: Legacy, Masters of Sex) in talks, according to Deadline. Banderas and Sheen will play live-action roles, with Banderas playing a pirate named Rassouli and Sheen playing Mudfly. The film also stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes), who is playing the title role. The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be directed by Stephen Gaghan (Gold, Syriana). Gaghan also rewrote the script from a Tom Sheppard draft. In addition, THR reports that Selena Gomez (Monte Carlo, Hotel Transylvania) has joined the cast as well.
In addition, some of the talking animals in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be voiced by Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Beauty and the Beast), Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Captain America: Civil War) and Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, the Harry Potter franchise).
The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is an adaptation of the Hugh Lofting children’s books from the 1920s. Production on the film will begin later this month in London.
