Presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, as well as addressing broader issues, the Emmy-winning Last Week Tonight with John Oliver kicks off its fifth season Sunday, February 18 (11:00–11:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.
The show is also available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.
The series has been renewed for two additional seasons, extending its run on the network through 2020.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts on HBO, the show features a mix of Oliver’s topical commentary and pre-taped pieces.
In 2017, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver received four Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, Outstanding Interactive Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.
In 2016, it received three Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.
In 2015, the show received an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Interactive Program. The show was honored at the 21st Critics Choice Awards in the category of Best Talk Show, and received a Peabody Award, as well as Writers Guild Award in the category of Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) — Series.
