Untitled Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson comedy set for 2018 by MGM
An untitled MGM comedy starring Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, The Dark Knight Rises) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect franchise, How to Be Single) has been set for release on August 10, 2018, according to Deadline. The remake of the classic 1988 comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has been called Nasty Women in earlier stories. The film will be directed by Chris Addison and Annapurna is handling the theatrical release.
The untitled comedy is scripted by Jac Schaeffer. Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson play scam artists. As with the original film, one has class and panache and the other is a bit of a wild card. They have a competition to see who can take a tech prodigy for all he’s worth. Wilson and Roger Birnbaum will produce with Cave 76 Productions and Camp Sugar Production.
The untitled Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson comedy will be up agains the giant shark film The Meg from Warner Bros. on August 10, 2018, as well as Universal’s Scarface, Sony’s Barbie and Open Road’s A.X.L.
The original Dirty Rotten Scoundrels came from a script written by Dale Launer, Stanley Shapiro, and Paul Henning. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was, in turn, based on Stanley Shapiro and Paul Henning’s 1964 script, Bedtime Story. Directed by Ralph Levy, Bedtime Story features Marlon Brando and David Niven in the respective Wilson/Steve Martin and Hathaway/Michael Caine roles.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels stars Martin as a low class con artist who makes a bet with a high class confidence man (Caine) to see who can swindle an heiress out of $50,000 (and sex) first. It later was adapted into a successful stage musical in 2005.
