Brad Pitt will star alongside Tommy Lee Jones in James Gray’s Ad Astra movie
Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones are planning to star together in James Gray’s Ad Astra movie, a sci-fi epic that is set to go into production in September. Deadline has the news, reporting that the New Regency production will feature Jones as the father of Pitt’s character who, 20 years ago, left his son on a mission to Neptune in the search for extraterrestrial life. Pitt’s character, named Roy McBride, then sets out two decades later to find out what happened to his dad.

Gray, who last wrote and directed The Lost City of Z, wrote the Ad Astra movie with Fringe scribe Ethan Gross. Pitt’s Plan B is producing alongside Marc Butan of Mad River, Anthony Katagas of Keep Your Head Productions, Rodrigo Teixeira of RT Features and Gray himself. RT Features, which financed development of the Ad Astra movie, also has Sophie Mas and Lourenço Sant’Anna serving as executive producers.
“I’m incredibly excited to be teaming up with James and Anthony again and to be working with RT Features,” said Butan when the Ad Astra movie was first announced. “James wrote a fantastic script and continues to raise the bar – I look forward to working on this film.”
Brad Pitt most recently headlined David Michôd’s War Machine, released through Netflix. Coming up, he’s slated to reteam with David Fincher for a World War Z sequel. Tommy Lee Jones, meanwhile, recently appeared in the action thrillers Criminal, Jason Bourne and The Mechanic: Resurrection. Coming up, the Academy Award winner can be seen as part of the cast of Rob Reiner’s Shock and Awe.
