RELATED: Set Visit: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler ARE The House
The House follows Ferrell’s character, Scott, and his wife, Kate (Poehler) who, after losing their daughter’s college fund, decide that they can earn some money back by opening an illegal casino in their basement. Although they both made a name for themselves on Saturday Night Live, The House is the first film since 2007’s Blades of Glory to feature the stars together in a significant capacity.
“The characters really like each other,” Poehler told CS during our visit to the film’s set last year. “It’s a marriage that’s working and it’s a team that they kind of embolden each other along the way. They both lose their minds together and separately. It’s a good example of: It’s never too late to make a bad decision with someone you love.”
The House movie cast also includes Jason Mantzoukas (The League, How to Be Single), Nick Kroll (Joshy, Sing), Allison Tolman (Fargo, Krampus), Sam Richardson (Veep, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising) and Rob Huebel (Transparent, Baywatch).
Ferrell is also producing the film, scripted by the Neighbors pair of Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Cohen helmed the film, marking his feature film directing debut.
In addition to Ferrell, Adam McKay (The Big Short, Anchorman 1 & 2) produced The House through their Gary Sanchez Productions. Good Universe is also producing with Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy serving as executive producers.
The House opens in theaters on June 30.
