Outlander’s Sam Heughan in Talks for Spy Film with Kate McKinnon

Outlander’s Sam Heughan is in talks to join The Spy Who Dumped Me

Outlander star Sam Heughan is in talks to join Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live) and Mila Kunis (Oz The Great and Powerful) in the upcoming Lionsgate comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, according to Deadline. McKinnon and Kunis will play “best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.”

Peter Kang and Geoff Shaevitz and Imagine’s Erica Huggins and Julie Oh are on board to oversee the film.

The title, The Spy Who Dumped Me, is an obvious take on The Spy Who Loved Me, the tenth film in the James Bond series, starring Roger Moore, Curd Jürgens and Barbara Bach. That film’s title, of course, comes from Ian Fleming’s novel “The Spy Who Loved Me,” the tenth book in the series, though the plot was different.

Sam Heughan plays the lead role of Jamie Fraser opposite Caitriona Balfe in the Starz series Outlander, which will return for Season 3 in September. He’s also appeared in A Princess for Christmas and the TV series Doctors.

McKinnon has been known as the standout performer on Saturday Night Live, particularly during the election season. She’s played everyone from Hillary Clinton to Kellyanne Conway to Elizabeth Warren, Betsy DeVos, and Jeff Sessions. She was also the breakout character in the recent all-female version of the film Ghostbusters. In addition to her extensive film work, Kunis has been doing the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy since 1999 as well as a number of voices on Robot Chicken.
