First announced earlier this year, Ridley Scott is developing a biopic of Gertrude Bell which, as The Hollywood Reporter updates, could star Angelina Jolie.
Jeffrey Caine, best known as the writer of The Constant Gardener, is drafting the screenplay based on the life of Bell, an ambassadorial British writer who traveled the middle east in the first years of the 20th century, becoming a powerful figure in the political administration of the region.
Jolie last starred in The Tourist and is set to make her directorial debut with In the Land of Blood & Honey, bowing in a limited release on December 23rd.
Scott is currently attached only as a producer on Bell, but it could be his next directorial project after Prometheus. He’s also expressed interest in helming Forever War, Gucci, Monopoly and an untitled sequel to his 1982 classic, Blade Runner.
Meanwhile, a biopic of Bell is also being planned by Werner Herzog, who, some time ago, was rumored to have completed his screenplay.
